The Album also celebrates 20 years of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra and the interaction of Anne-Sophie Mutter and Yo-Yo Ma after 40 years!
At the opening of the Beethoven year 2020, Deutsche Grammophon will release an album that is exceptional in several respects. with the Triple Concerto op. 56 and the Seventh Symphony op.92, it will present two key works by the Jubilee composer. With Anne-Sophie Mutter, Yo-Yo Ma and Daniel Barenboim, three of the most renowned artists and Beethoven interpreters of our time can also be experienced, who interpret the colourful pieces in a complex and exciting way together with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra.
The recordings were made as live recordings of concerts in July and October 2019 in Buenos Aires and Berlin respectively on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. The orchestra has long since become a symbol of an international understanding project. Co-founded in 1999 by Daniel Barenboim, it stands for the courageous realization of a dream and is a fascinating microcosm that exemplifies how reconciliation can succeed in working together on a cause.
For Daniel Barenboim Beethoven was probably the first truly unconventional composer. “He didn’t care what people think,” says Barenboim, demanding absolute physical presence and dedication from the interpreter. “As a musician, he forces you to go to the edge, the abyss and even further. This requires a tremendous amount of courage.”In its existential depth and cross-border force, the music of the convinced humanist has a compelling presence and topicality to this day.
Anne-Sophie Mutter says that Beethoven ” really recognized what life is all about: the peaceful coexistence of us human beings, the fact that we are there for each other. For me, this idea that we should live together like brothers or sisters at heart is ultimately the essence of his work, which makes him an ambassador from the past into a better future.«
Yo-Yo Ma explains, ” the exuberant inventiveness is so surprising, and the work is so life-affirming, so positive. The second movement is noble and open, but the corner movements are just full of joy!”The clearly highlighted parts of the soloists are often conducted in chamber music and are immediately captivated by the expressive Interpretation of Mutter, Barenboim and Ma
